Over the last 30 years, with the rapid expansion of the prison industrial complex, state agents have become a constant presence in our homes, communities, and even our most intimate relationships. Not enough attention has been given to what this means for the ways that we love ourselves and each other.
Piper Anderson and Marlon Peterson created Mass Love from their own reflections on love, family, and relationships. They began Mass Love to challenge the role of the STATE in determining how we love and when we can love. They created Mass Love in a search for the antidote to the dehumanizing affects of mass criminalization and incarceration of Black people.
They are asking us all to consider the question: could it be, that to end mass incarceration, we must commit ourselves to a radical reclamation of love?
