Why Mass Love?

Over the last 30 years, with the rapid expansion of the prison industrial complex, state agents have become a constant presence in our homes, communities, and even our most intimate relationships. Not enough attention has been given to what this means for the ways that we love ourselves and each other.

Piper Anderson and Marlon Peterson created Mass Love from their own reflections on love, MassLoveTeam2family, and relationships. They began Mass Love to challenge the role of the STATE in determining how we love and when we can love. They created Mass Love in a search for the antidote to the dehumanizing affects of mass criminalization and incarceration of Black people.

They are asking us all to consider the question: could it be, that to end mass incarceration, we must commit ourselves to a radical reclamation of love?

  2. one powerful quote Mr.Herman Wallace [political prisoner) , told me was” activism is part love part anger,’ that to me means that you love the people and principles you fight for and hate the system that oppresses human beings. this is a necessary balance that must be kept in check. love is the greatest opponent to anger. it has to included into the solution of a system built on hate , fear & control.
